Hello, I know this is not in relation to children, but I believe my sister has a learning disability - almost a mild form of dyslexia. She is suffering immensely in her work life, as she keeps losing jobs due to the same issues. Things like reading and retaining information, spelling and writing things incorrectly etc...This is impacting on her confidence and she is very insecure. Can someone recommend where we might start to get her assessed so we can get these issues addressed. She is 27 years old. |

My 10 year old son has been diagnosed with dyslexia. He has struggled in school from kindy. He has been tutored for 2 years. He has also been involved in an intensive reading program at school for 2 terms. I am after any help what so ever. Schools just don't seem to be able to cater for this type of disability. He is very frustrated and has shown signs of low self esteem and is lacking confidence. All programs I have investigated cost the earth. At this point in time I cannot afford thousdand of dollars to try something that MAY help. |

My 7 year old son has a learning difficulty and central auditory processing delays, we have been advised to move schools as he is struggling, in a large composite class the school resources are limited (one part time literacy support). Is there a list anywhere of melbourne primary schools that work well with children like this and have a lot of literacy support public or private?
Thank you | |

Talk to your GP. You can get a referral letter from GP for speech therapy which will give you a certain amount of sessions with a Speech therapist which is then all covered. I cannot think what it is specifically called, but speak to either the GP or speech therapist if you have one and they should be able to help. SPeech therapist can assist if their are language, phonics gaps that need help. Hope this helps |
