Learning to recognise words: Cutting edge research
LDA will be joined by the Macquarie University Centre for Reading (MQCR) in presenting a unique professional learning event on Tuesday 25 October, celebrating the visit of Professor Linnea Ehri. The speakers will offer participants insight into current research into how children learn to recognise words. Professor Ehri, recipient of LDA’s Eminent Researcher Award, will provide a keynote address summarising her theoretical insights into how children develop proficient word recognition skills. A second keynote address, by Professor Anne Castles, will introduce some of the major reading-related research in which she has been involved, both in Australia and internationally. The other presenters during the day, all highly-respected researchers associated with MQRC, will share the evidence they have recently published on how children learn to recognise words – evidence that can translate directly into the effective teaching of reading and spelling. The day will end with a Q&A panel that will allow conference participants to interact with all the presenters. Spaces are limited for this event – register early.
