From the Lab to the Classroom:

New Directions in Dyslexia Research

 Saturday 19 August 2017

Novotel Perth Langley, 221 Adelaide Terrace

This presentation will describe some of the most transformative studies in neuroscience-based research on dyslexia to appear in the last two years. Three directions will be emphasized: implications of the reading brain for reading methods; the prediction and early diagnosis of dyslexia subtypes; and targeted intervention in dyslexia, highlighting the translation of findings into insights for the classroom.

Maryanne Wolf, Director of the Center for Reading and Language and Associate Professor of Child Development at Tufts University, received her doctorate from Harvard University where she began her work in cognitive neuroscience and developmental psycholinguistics on the reading brain, literacy’s development, and dyslexia. Her many awards include the International Dyslexia Association’s highest honours and the 2016 LDA AJLD Eminent Researcher Award. She is the author of over 140 scientific publications and of RAVE-O, an intervention program for struggling readers. Her 2016 book Tales of Literacy for the 21st Century, introduces the reading brain and a new conceptualisation of dyslexia

“What’s working in WA schools to prevent and support students at risk of literacy based learning difficulties?”

Hear from an award-winning principal, two expert teachers and an academic who are achieving positive changes in literacy outcomes in WA primary and secondary schools.
